چکیده

Why do you study autophagy? i joined the sass lab to study autophagy in 1996 when i was an undergraduate in my second year. the lab was starting to work with a new model at that time: Drosophila. i stayed there for my phD, and i could graduate partly thanks to a soros fellowship that allowed me to work for 6 months at two excellent Drosophila genetics labs in szeged. the next big step was joining the renowned neufeld lab. i was hesitating whether i should change research fields when i was about to return to europe. i stayed because autophagy was getting really hot, and a job offer came from Budapest at the same time. soon i managed to obtain funding as well, so i have spent my whole career studying autophagy so far.

The Effect of Protein Kinase-B on FOXO Autophagy Family Proteins (FOXO1 and FOXO3a) Following High Intensity Interval Training in the Left Ventricle of the Heart of Diabetic Rats by Streptozotocin and Nicotinamide

Background: FOXO family proteins are important factors in autophagy pathway. Protein kinase-B is an important regulator for this family that can be regulated through exercise training. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of protein kinase-B (PKB) on FOXO autophagy family proteins (FOXO1 and FOXO3a) following high intensity interval training (HIIT) in the left ventricle...

Autophagy-monitoring and autophagy-deficient mice

Discovery of yeast autophagy-related (ATG) genes and subsequent identification of their homologs in other organisms have enabled researchers to investigate physiological functions of macroautophagy/autophagy using genetic techniques. Specific identification of autophagy-related structures is important to evaluate autophagic activity, and specific ablation of autophagy-related genes is a critica...

The role of autophagy in advanced glycation end product-induced proliferation and migration in rat vascular smooth muscle cells

Objective(s): To investigate the role of autophagy in advanced glycation end products (AGEs)-induced proliferation and migration in rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs).Materials and Methods: After culture, VSMCs were treated with 0, 1, 10, and 100 μg/ml concentrations of AGEs. Autophagy specific protein light chain 3 (LC3)-I/II was determined by western blotting, autophagosomes were observ...

Wear particles enhance autophagy through up-regulation of CD147 to promote osteoclastogenesis

Objective(s): The study aimed to uncover the underlying mechanism linking wear particles to osteoclast differentiation, and we explored the effect of titanium particles of different sizes on CD147 expression and autophagy in macrophages. Materials and Methods: Effects of titanium particles on CD147 and RANKL mRNA were detected by QPCR; protein level of CD147 and Beclin-1 were detected by Wester...
